Post 6 - My experience learning English at the university.

From what has been an intense semester, my experience with English at the university has been quite promising. In the sense that I can say that I have learned English in a different way than I was used to when I was in school.

The fact that there are didactic classes, not necessarily face-to-face, makes learning more interesting and much more enjoyable. It makes you see the great interest that comes to exist on the part of one as a student, to the English that is offered.

I think that face-to-face classes enhance learning much more than online classes. The truth is that I usually don´t pay much attention to the classes when they are online, because I don´t feel totally interested, since my concentration is usually lost very quickly. So, when the classes are mostly in-person they make my willingness to learn totally focused on the class. I also firmly believe that learning something, no matter what it is, should be taught properly in a classroom, where the teacher-student relationship remains latent for the rest of the session.

Writing blogs and being able to give a certain point of view, or simply give your opinion about something, clearly in English, has been quite interesting and entertaining for me, because doing this writing exercise almost every week, has made me participate in an experience in which I can test my knowledge about the great existing vocabulary and at the same time notice the great lack of practice in which I was immersed. So these blogs have helped me to some extent to increase my range of experience in writing and reading English.

I think I spend most of my time trying to get used to a life in English. I try to always be watching movies, series, videos, etc. that are in English, so that I can improve my vocabulary and my way of interpreting English. I also speak a lot in English, in the sense that I can be talking to someone and suddenly I get the crazy idea to speak a little bit in English, to practice and have a good time with the other person. I read a lot of publications in English, which makes my vocabulary and grammar grow. And the truth is that I have a great time doing all this, in order to learn something that sooner or later I will need a lot.

I do all of the above because I think in the future I will be able to travel and immerse myself in the great cultures that certain English-speaking countries have to offer. So being able to have the language opens up a world full of possibilities.

I think that something I really need to improve about my English is grammar, since it is the part that I have had the hardest time improving. And what I would do to be able to accomplish the mission of improving this part of my English, would be to practice it and take certain courses outside the university that can help me achieve it.
